Creating high quality, accessible, affordable books to help children learn to love to read

Mustard Seed Neighborhood Development Corporation was founded in 1995 by a group of friends interested in building affordable housing and doing community development work in Oakland. From '95 to '05 Mustard Seed built and rehabilitated houses, trained construction workers and helped low-income families buy their first homes. After ten years, the primary contractors (Greg Hendsch and Mike Hoffman) left to pursue other opportunities in construction.

Now Mustard Seed continues its community development work through supporting public education and recreation programs. This Mustard Seed Books website and the Mustard Seed Books project is a current example of a program being run by Mustard Seed.

Mustard Seed Neighborhood Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation.
